In 2023, Therme Group US entered into an agreement with Mayor Bowser to bring a transformative investment to the District– with a specific focus on Wards 7 and 8. For too long, drivers of economic growth have failed to cross the Anacostia River, Therme Washington, DC is changing that.
Our project is opening tremendous opportunities at Poplar Point, including the creation of a new, 70-acre public park and the possibility for housing development. Therme Washington, DC is expected to create 5,000 construction jobs and over 700 permanent jobs. Our hyperlocal hiring and training plan will ensure that these opportunities directly benefit the immediate community with $1.5B in District tax revenue over 25 years.

Community Engagement
For the last 18 months, you've likely seen Therme DC out in the community and dozens of local events. To date, we’ve met with over 50 local organizations and community leaders, attended events including Anacostia Art All Night, H St Festival, the Go-Go Museum grand opening and more.
The local response to our engagement so far has been strong and overwhelmingly positive. People are excited by Therme DC as a place to visit, a place to work and as an exciting neighbor. We have a lot more work to do and look forward to many more conversations in the coming months to forge partnerships to deliver jobs and economic opportunity.

Our Future Site
During our engagement events, we heard from Washingtonians about where they’d like to see Therme DC With the desire for real investment and opportunity in Wards 7 and 8, one location emerged as a clear frontrunner - Poplar Point.
In meeting the needs of the Ward 8 community, Poplar Point checks the boxes. Currently an underused plot of land ripe for investment, Therme DC can unlock the enormous potential of this site for the local community, the District and the region. This project will help facilitate the creation of a new public park, which will span 70 acres and connect to the existing Anacostia Park and Anacostia River Trail. New opportunities for development could also mean new opportunities for affordable housing, retail space for business and more jobs for the community.
Combined with Therme DC, which will bring new health and wellbeing options to Ward 8 alongside a major economic boost, Poplar Point presents a transformative opportunity for the local community.
